Online Bingo and Gaming Companies to Contribute More to Problem Gambling

Problem gambling both within the casino and bingo industry is one of the gravest concerns of the UK Government and although legislation has been introduced to protect vulnerable people (whoever they actually might be), a report by the UK governments culture secretary

Andy Burnham says that even more new rules are going to be enforced to ensure that gaming and bingo operators, both land based and online will have to contribute more financially to funding gambling help programmes.

At present it has been estimated that as little as 380 gaming concerns out of a possible 3 800 are contributing funding to the Responsibility in Gaming Trust. The Government wants to ensure that all bingo and gaming operators of any description contribute. Although both online and land based bingo is one of the sectors of the industry that experiences the least problem gambling, any new legislation that affects other gaming concerns will also affect bingo.

I don’t see why bingo operators should have a problem with donating to this fund, the players have the most generous nature and many of the operators too practice giving to various charities etc. One just hopes that the UK Government will reassess its discriminatory taxation practices against the bingo industry prior to instituting any new drains on their revenue.
