What with the smoking ban and the double taxation imposed on the British land based bingo industry, they have had to become quite inventive in their promotions to get bottoms into the seats of their bingo clubs. One such innovation introduced by Mecca Bingo was a free bus service in Luton.
When the Gala bingo in Luton closed down, Mecca Bingo was quick to take advantage of the situation and arranged for a free daily bus service for old Gala Galaxy Centre members to their Mecca club in Skimpot Road. This was some seriously good quick thinking. And although the Gala bingo closed down in March and Mecca was only providing free travel to their club until 5 April, this proved to be so successful that they ran the free service until 23 April.
The Bus leaves the Gala Bingo venue at Galaxy Centre at 12: 45 pm and returns at 3:30 pm. And although it is no longer free, it has proved to be worthwhile for the Mecca Bingo business in Luton and now they are charging £1 for the bus service, so it has become a well established service. Well done Mecca Bingo, good thinking!
