Mecca Bingo Apologises

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Mecca bingo has apologized to a gentleman after one of their members of staff refused to allow him use of the toilet. The gentleman, Ian Mann suffers from and illness known as “ulcerative colitis”, a chronic bowel condition, which causes him to regularly need the toilet, and apparently he carries a card with him that proves he has this illness. Even though he showed this card to the member of staff , they still would not allow him the use of the toilet.

Mr. Mann works as a taxi driver, he had just dropped off a passenger at the bingo club and required use of the toilet. He understands that only members of the club are allowed use of the toilets, but his condition does not know that. When he explained this to the member of staff, she told him that he would have to become a member in order use the toilet facilities, he feels that she really didn’t use any common sense when dealing with his situation, and is very keen to raise an awareness of this illness.

Mecca bingo spokesperson, Lesley Hughes, made a statement on behalf of the club, explaining the policy but at the same time apologizing to Mr. Mann. She said that under exceptional circumstances such as these he should have been allowed to make use of the toilet facilities. They will be talking to Mecca bingo staff, including the staff member involved to ensure that they know this in the future.
