Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

A West Lothian woman who recently won more than £77,000 in the National Bingo Game at Carlton Bingo in Almondvale is the second big winner there in less than two weeks, it seems that this Carlton Bingo Club is becoming one of the new “lucky clubs”. The woman is still in shock about her big win and has not been sleeping too well, but is still very pleased, she says that people at the bingo club were actually rubbing her for luck.

She won the National Bingo Jackpot of £74 560 a Regional Prize of £3 232 and a house prize of £111 when she called full house after forty-one numbers had been called. The married woman who has three children and three grandchildren, works as a sales assistant and has been playing bingo with a friend usually about once a week for the last fifteen years. She will be sharing her prize money with her friend, you have to love bingo players!

The married woman wants to use her share of the money to treat her children and grandchildren, she also plans a holiday of a lifetime to Australia, will pay off some of her mortgage and save the rest of the prize money that is left over as a nest egg.

Valentines Day Bingo Surprise

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

A forty-six year old woman who was playing bingo at the Beacon Club in Cricklewood, had been playing bingo for many years and hadn’t won anything in ages, had all but decided to give up playing bingo altogether.

Now I know that bingo is generally played for fun and not for the winning, however it does become a little disheartening when you don’t even win a little bit and everyone else around you is wining. Well she didn’t and on Valentines day she hit the mother-load.

The Greenford woman won the National bingo game of ₤16 947 which was half of what was up for grabs, but had to be shared with another winner in Cumbria, the Regional prize of ₤2 122 and a really nice house prize of ₤404. To win this magnificent sum, the woman called full house on forty-six numbers.

The woman who has been a member of the Beacon bingo club since 1999 and usually plays there twice a week, was so delighted with her win that she had to ask someone to pinch her, and she has decided that she definitely isn’t going to give up playing bingo now. Presently she has no fixed plans for using the money, just that it is really going to help her with her finances.

The freeroll games take place on the 9th March 2008 at 9pm EST with the Grand Final taking place on the 16th March 2008.

Mecca Bingo, Kilburn High Road, Sold to Church

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

The Mecca Bingo Club building in Kilburn High Road, London has been sold for £9 million to a popular gospel church group. The building has been owned by the Rank Group for over sixty years, since the 1940’s and is a gorgeous building that was built in an Italian Renaissance design, it has a tower that reaches 130 feet high and is a Grade II listed building.

Before being converted into a bingo club the building hosted such big names as Marylin Monroe, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. It was made into a bingo club in the 1960’s.

The Mecca Bingo building is the latest in a long line of historic buildings to fall prey to the New Gambling Act, smoking ban and unfair taxation, and it seems that it won’t be the last. With many independent bingo operators struggling to keep their heads above water, the fact that the big brand bingo names are having to offload properties does not seem to bode well for them. However the gospel church opening in the ex-bingo club, apparently has a huge following, perhaps they will play bingo to raise funds for charity, who knows?
