The RIGT has some ambitious plans in place to try and combat an increase in the spate of problem gamblers. To this end they have initiated a study in an attempt to resolve problem gaming across the board, including compulsive online bingo players, and players in land based bingo halls.
The responsibility in Gambling Trust is endorsed by all online bingo sites, and you will see a disclaimer to this fact on every reputable site. They seek to assist individuals who have lost control of their bingo playing, this loss of control is generally indicated by a person who spends more than they can afford on gaming. For instance the case of Sandra Preston who at only aged forty two, stole ₤62 000 from her employer to fund her online bingo and slots habit. Needless to say she got caught and now has to spend six months behind bars. This was a perfectly normal person, a wife and mother, who after her marriage failed, took to online gaming to try and overcome her problems, only making things worse in the process.
Anyway RITG wants to take a look at educating UK people as to the dangers of problem gambling. They feel that not enough is being done in this area, and that it is not enough to treat and offer services to people who are already in this position. The bingo and gaming industry in the UK are awaiting the findings of the RITG study anxiously.
